I think this is the life of many a dance (or similar) mom, when there isn't enough time to drive all the way home and back during rehearsal, I spend three days a week entertaining myself in the car while I wait.
Dance recital day! We missed this spring event entirely last year thanks to the pandemic, and this year's performance was distinctly different; instead of nealry three hours including all age and ability levels, the studio was divided into four different sections to allow for proper distancing back stage and in the audience. The performance we attended included two other groups (one very young and one between) and all five of Calvin's competition group dances (ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, and tap). It was wonderful, and fun, and so very close to normal. We even went out for an outdoor, distanced ice cream with some of his friends from the team. But there were no photographers this year, in either rehearsal or performance, so we came home and did a costumed photo shoot of our own that left a lot to be desired. Better than nothing is the mantra of this slow roll out of a pandemic.
