Day 139 in 2023

Members of the band put on a short marching demonstration at the reception honoring the school's retiring band director. Gahhh! Couldn't he have waited one more year? This man, and the band program he has nurtured for more than two decades, were the reason Calvin chose to attend our public high school. He will be missed, although, true to the hallmark of a good instructor and leader, not so much that the show won't go on.

Day 43 in 2023

He gave up piano when he became a public school student. It was an agreemnt we'd had—that he could quit if he became too busy—but it broke my heart all the same. He has SO much talent, he just hate practicing. And I've loved watching him grow his other talents this past year for sure, but I won't pretend I wasn't thrilled when he decided to pick it back up in order to join the jazz band at school.
